Bipolar switch for household appliances

Household appliance manufacturers are moving towards appliances that are quieter, consume less power and energy, and at the same time, provide high performance. Despite the propensity to innovate and create more and more technological and innovative devices, some purely functional components are indispensable in the design of a household appliance. These include the bipolar switch for household appliances.

In this article, we focus on the bipolar switch for household appliances, one of the components available in the SLIM catalogue.

The application of the bipolar switch for household appliances

The bipolar switch is an electrical device that has the specific function of interrupting the electrical circuit. The operation of the bipolar switch is of the on-off type, in fact, it operates by mechanically connecting or disconnecting the electrical circuit. The symbols usually placed on the switch button indicate in which position the device will shut off the flow of electrical current and, alternatively, which pole will make it turn on.

The bipolar switch is usually used for critical loads, i.e. when the required current load is particularly high. Household appliances fall into this category. Household appliances such as washing machines, ovens, hoods, electric hobs and refrigerators require components that can interrupt the flow of current to an outlet, thus isolating the load. For this reason, circuit breakers are usually placed near the 16A appliance's electrical outlet. The use of these devices is indicated to have direct control over the switching on and off of the appliance in question. The operation requires the device to open and close the poles simultaneously: this provides greater protection of the load by disconnecting the user from the mains. This makes routine and extraordinary maintenance of the various appliances safer.

The bipolar switch is therefore used as a protection system in large kitchen appliances. You can find different models of switches that can be applied to household appliances in SLIM's product range: for example, the bipolar switch for kitchen hoods, the bipolar switch for washing machines and the bipolar switch for ovens. Thanks to the collaboration with Comelux Srl, an Italian company that has been specialising in electronic components for more than 50 years, SLIM offers its customers a wide range of switches with certified quality.

You can select the component you prefer by choosing the luminous bipolar switch configuration, which encloses a light source inside (incandescent lamp or neon/fluorine lamp or LED).
