✨ The art of custom lighting: when co-design ignites innovation

Every project stems from a need.
But often, behind that need, there is much more: an intuition, a product under development, an idea seeking its ideal form.

At SLIM, we have been in the business of transforming these ideas into customized lighting solutions for more than 50 years.
We do this with passion, technical expertise and a method that has become a true style for us: co-design.

💡 It all starts with a question.

When a client contacts us with a special request, our first task is not to design.
It is to listen.

Every custom lighting solution takes shape from a conversation. What will be the final application? What technical constraints are there? What feeling will that light need to convey?

👉 Sometimes it's about illuminating an oven knob with a soft glow effect, sometimes it's about integrating an RGB optical fiber into a professional, steam-resistant, wear-resistant coffee machine.
Each context has its own story. Each project, its own challenge.

🤝 Co-design: we don't provide components, we build relationships

At SLIM, we don't just "provide a solution"-we build the path to develop it together with the client.

This approach leads us to work side by side with technical offices, R&D departments, and design studios, in a continuous exchange of information, drawings, tests, and feedback.

A concrete example?
🔸 The project for ILVE's Panoramagic, where we designed a backlighting system for the cooktop knobs, capable of enhancing the iconic design of the line.
🔸 Or the work with Hager, where the switch becomes an aesthetic element thanks to a discreet but distinctive light point.

🔧 The stages of a SLIM custom project.

Here's how we turn an idea into a concrete solution:

  1. Initial brief: we gather all the specifications as well as the client's intentions.
  2. Technical and creative analysis: we evaluate materials, overall dimensions, aesthetics, lighting performance.
  3. Concept design: we develop initial proposals, comparing in a transparent way.
  4. Rapid 3D prototyping: the client can test the solution directly on the product.
  5. Optimization: thermal, aesthetic, functional tests. Only when everything is validated, we move on to production.

This process is never the same: it adapts, evolves, grows along with the idea it wants to realize.

🔍 The advantages of our approach

Realistic prototypes without the need for initial investment in molds
Reduced time thanks to direct dialogue between technical teams
Production flexibility even for small runs
Reduced validation and industrialization costs
Trust and continuity: the customer becomes part of our innovation chain

✨ O ne project at a time, one relationship at a time

For us, each custom solution represents the beginning of a collaboration, not the end of a delivery.

Behind every light point we develop is a team, a common vision, a challenge won together.
This is how projects that last, those that turn into long-term partnerships, are born.

"We believe that true innovation is not only in technology, but in the relationship between the designer and the imaginer."
